This guide shares practical considerations based on the kinds of commercial facilities our team serves across Eastern Ontario.
Kingston and Eastern Ontario hotels need a breakfast-room and meeting-space program separate from lobby common-area cleaning. Here is how to scope those rooms.
Emerald Cleaners wrote this guide for commercial facilities in Eastern Ontario. It is operational advice for this topic, not a copied template and not medical or legal advice.
Guests do not live in the lobby
A Kingston hotel can look sharp at the front desk and still lose a review on the breakfast room: sticky tables, a wet carpet at the buffet, a washroom off the meeting hall that was last checked at dawn. We already wrote about lobbies, corridors and public washrooms as first impressions. This article is the other guest rooms: breakfast, coffee, and meeting space.
Those rooms have food soil, chair movement, and surge traffic at 7 a.m. and at coffee break. A lobby dusting cadence will not keep up.
Housekeeping for guest rooms, if you buy it, is a separate written scope. Do not assume a public-area crew is running a full room-attendant program.

Breakfast rooms: between service, not after checkout
The useful clean is often a reset after breakfast, not only a night visit. Tables, chair seats, high chairs, the floor under the buffet, beverage stations, and the small washroom attached to dining all belong on a daytime list if the room stays open.
Floor type decides the method. Carpet under a waffle station is a known failure. If you have it, extraction is a calendar item and mats are mandatory. Hard floors need a real degrease where syrup lives, not a damp mop that smears.
Food-contact surfaces follow the hotel’s own food-handling rules. The cleaner’s scope should not pretend to be a health-inspection guarantee. It should name the surfaces they actually wipe.
Meeting rooms: turnover between groups
Boards, training groups and wedding guests leave different soil. A 30-minute turnover is tables, chairs, glass, bins, floors, and the washroom in the same hall. A deep clean after a full-day catering is a different ticket.
Write whether AV cables are to be dusted or not touched. Meeting rooms fail when a crew unplugs a projector to wipe a credenza.
If the space opens onto a kitchen or pantry, decide who owns that floor. Hotel operations and a commercial crew will overlap unless the line is written.
How this connects to kitchen tile and public corridors
If breakfast is plated from a real kitchen, grout and grease are a specialty conversation, not a banquet-room wipe. Keep that on the restaurant tile path.
Corridors that feed the breakfast room still belong to the common-area program. Do not drop them because this article exists.
Seasonal events in Kingston (sports, convocation, long weekends) should change labour that week, not wait for a bad review.
Briefing a contractor
Send a floor plan with breakfast hours, meeting-room inventory, and whether you need daytime resets. Photos after a busy Saturday are more useful than photos at 2 p.m. on a Tuesday.
Use the hotel cleaning page for public-area programs and the specialty quote if floors need restoration.
Keep lobby work on its own list so this program cannot steal that time.
