High-touch lists do not replace a clock

A Kingston daycare that tries to do everything at 6:30 p.m. will rush the close. A Belleville centre that tries to do everything at 6:30 a.m. will greet parents over a wet floor.

Split the program: open, during-day occupant tasks, and close. Put contractor work on the close wherever you can. Keep opening tasks short and dry.

Opening: dry, stocked, not freshly mopped in the path

Parents judge the vestibule, cubbies, and the washroom they have to use with a toddler at 7:40 a.m. Those rooms should be stocked and visually reset. If floors were mopped at close, they should be dry. Do not flood a corridor at 7:15.

Opening tasks that belong to staff (attendance, fridge checks) should not be dumped on a cleaner who is not on site yet. Write who does what.

Winter mats should already be in place from the night before. Opening is not when you discover the runner is in the basement.

Closing: the contractor-shaped list

After pick-up, washrooms, floors, kitchen or snack areas, high-touch hardware, and accessible classroom surfaces can be done without navigating a full room of children. That is the window a commercial crew can actually use.

If the centre hosts evening programs, the close moves later or splits. Say so in the quote. A 6 p.m. lockup and a 9 p.m. lockup are different jobs.

Trash, laundry of centre-owned cloths if that is in scope, and restocking should be named. Mystery chores appear when a director assumes “they will see it.”

What still belongs to educators during the day

Bodily-fluid incidents, toy rotation, and crib or cot rules are operational policies. A night crew can support sanitation of agreed surfaces. They should not be written as if they replace staff procedures.

If you want a daytime washroom check, that is a separate short visit or a staff task. Do not hide it inside a close-only contract and then complain at noon.
