This guide shares practical considerations based on the kinds of commercial facilities our team serves across Eastern Ontario.
Flu season in this region coincides with closed windows, dry indoor air and winter entries. Prep is operational: more honest high-touch work, washrooms that stay stocked, and a kitchen that is not a shared-cup lottery. This is not medical advice.
Do the ordinary work more consistently
The list does not need to be exotic. Handles, switches, shared equipment, washrooms, taps and appliance handles. Use labelled contact times.
Add a midday washroom and kitchen check if occupancy is high. Nightly only is a long gap in a busy clinic waiting room.
Tell staff what is in scope so they stop asking cleaners to diagnose symptoms.
Winter and flu season are the same soil season
Mats, salt and wet floors are November through March. People touch more doors when they are carrying coats. Entries are part of flu-season cleaning even though they are a floor problem.
Do not soak carpets and open the office at 7 a.m. Dry time is part of prep.
commercial carpet cleaning at vestibules in January is often worth more than a scented fog in the boardroom.
What not to add by default
fogging disinfection is an assessed specialty, not a weekly office ritual. COVID-era habits should not silently become a line item you do not understand.
Do not mix leftover products “for extra strength.”
Do not promise occupants a sterile building. Promise a maintained one.
Brief the contractor in October
Do not wait for the first bad week in January. Set frequencies while you can still think.
